About The McKinley Birthplace Museum

The McKinley Birthplace Museum is located in Niles, Ohio in the balcony of the right wing of the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial. The museum is operated by the National McKinley Birthplace  Memorial Association. Visitors enjoy a brief video examining the life of the twenty-fifth President. The museum’s collections feature memorabilia from the Civil and Spanish American wars, objects from McKinley’s campaigns and presidency, and from the building of the memorial. Other objects on display include mannequins of  President and Mrs. McKinley in a home-like setting, artifacts from the McKinley farm in Minerva, Ohio,  a piano owned by the President’s mother, and a law desk belonging to the late president. Pieces from the Bechtel Collection, which is the largest collection of McKinleyana on record, are exhibited. Additionally, a collection of memorabilia from the construction and dedication of the building are displayed.

Museum Hours of Operation:
Monday-Wednesday 9:00am-5:00pm
Last self guided tour at 4:30pm

Thursday: 9AM – 3PM

Last self-guided tour at 2:30PM
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday-by advance appointment only

There is no admission fee to tour the museum. We welcome walk-in visitors, however groups of ten or more please contact the museum in advance to schedule a tour.
Museum balconies and restrooms are not handicap accessible. First floor of auditorium is accessible.

Mission Statement:
The National McKinley Birthplace Memorial Museum is dedicated to honoring the memory of our nation’s 25th President, William McKinley, who was born in Niles, Ohio, on January 29, 1843. The museum memorializes President McKinley by maintaining, preserving, exhibiting, and interpreting its collections to educate the community and promote an understanding of President McKinley’s life, career, and untimely death, along with the history of the McKinley Birthplace Memorial Building itself.
