Construction delays

“Dedication is Again Postponed,” Niles Daily News, May 15, 1917. Retrieved 4.1.2015 from
The date of the dedication was to have been June 5, 1917, however, the delivery of the colossal McKinley statue was delayed. The statue was molded in New York City, and delivery was expected to occur in mid-June. At the time of the article, it was thought that the ceremony would possibly be held in July or August. Originally it was hoped that the dedication could be held on Memorial Day, however, the construction delays and the fact that the Grand Army of the Republic and other patriotic organizations could not participate on Memorial Day meant that the event had to be held another day.
