On this Day in McKinley History

This information is from the book written by Carl Sferrazza Anthony Ida Mckinley: The Turn-of-the-Century First Lady through War, Assassination, and Secret Disability (Kent, OH: The Kent State University Press) 2013, p 185:

“On June 19 [1899], the McKinleys drove through the Smith College campus for commencement exercises [where Ida’s niece Mary Barber was a student and where Ida Barber, another of Ida McKinley’s nieces would begin college in the Fall]. William McKinley received an honorary LL.D. degree and became the first President so honored by a women’s college.”
